6th Dharamsala International Film Festival opens with National Award-winning feature ‘Mukti Bhawan’

DHARAMSALA, Nov 3: The sixth edition of Dharamsala International Film Festival (DIFF) opened with National Award-winning feature ‘Mukti Bhawan’ to a packed house at Upper TCV School yesterday.

Several cabinet ministers and parliamentarians of the Central Tibetan Administration, Tibetan directors and artists were among the Tibetan dignitaries that attended the event.

The well attended film festival began with a Tibetan song sung by TCV children aged 10-16 which was followed by the movie screening.

23192076_1510641619014286_652110735_o-768x517From a lot of 45 students, three students, Samdon Lhamo from Mewoen Tsuglag Petoen school and two Indian students from a school in Dharmamsala were declared the first, second and third position winners of DIFF’s Film Appreciation Competition, a community outreach of DIFF.

The DIFF being held over Nov 2-5 at Upper TCV School has an impressive line-up of 38 films; five children’s, eight shorts, six feature documentaries and nineteen feature narratives films to be screened for audiences in the mountains at Upper TCV School’s Hermann Gmeiner and Dekyi Tsering hall.

DIFF is a non-profit undertaking presented by White Crane Arts & Media Trust founded by Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam to promote contemporary art, cinema and independent media practices in the Himalayan region with an objective to create events, spaces and opportunities to nurture, encourage and develop contemporary forms of creative expression in the region.
