Tibetan monk attacked and robbed at knifepoint in Mundgod
DHARAMSALA, Jan 21: A Tibetan monk has been robbed at knifepoint by a gang of robbers at the Tibetan settlement in Mundgod.
Jangchup Rinchen (46) a Tibetan monk has sustained injuries on his hand after he was attacked and robbed at knifepoint by four unidentified robbers on Saturday, reports the Indian Express.
The four Indian men who entered the home of the Tibetan monk late on Saturday evening by cutting the compound fence has looted 7 lakhs in cash, a gold chain and bracelet worth 4 lakhs, and three high-end mobile phones from the Tibetan monk’s home, the report added.
The victim hails from Gaden Shartse’s Gunj Ru House in camp no 1 of the Tibetan settlement in Mundgod and he has been discharged from the hospital after treatment.
Apparently, this is not a one-off incident in the area, sources have told us that there were two incidents of robbery recently by six Indian men near the Rato Monastery in the Tibetan settlement on the secluded road at night.
A Tibetan monk was reportedly threatened and held at knifepoint by six Indian men who robbed his money and mobile phone while they robbed around ten thousand rupees and a mobile phone from their second victim, another monk from Kague Monastery.
