Additional Secretary Karma Dadul elected new Justice Commissioner of Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission
DHARAMSALA, Sep 19: Karma Dadul, the incumbent Additional Secretary of Department of Religion and Culture of the Central Tibetan Administration was today elected as the new Justice Commissioner of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission.
After the retirement of Ngawang Choedak Choetri Tengpa, one of the two other Justice Commissioners of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission on Sep 3, 2018 following 43 years of service, the Tibetan Parliament today conducted voting for his replacement between Tsewang Dolma Shosur, Additional Secretary of Department of Home and Karma Dadul, Additional Secretary of Department of Religion and Culture.
The candidates’ nomination was proposed by a 3-member selection committee comprising of former Chief Justice Commissioner Jhadur Sangpo, former Kalon Tsering Phuntsok and former Commissioner of Public Service Commission, Jampel Choesang.
A total of 43 MPs in attendance at the session of the Tibetan Parliament voted twice to elect the replacement for Ngawang Choedak Choetri Tengpa after their first attempt resulted in a tie – 21 votes each to the two candidates and a blank vote.
Thereafter, Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel opened the floor for the second time to conduct the vote in accordance with the provisions of the Tibetan Charter and the legislators then elected Karma Dadul as the new Justice Commissioner of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission.
The incumbent Additional Secretary of Department of Religion and Culture outdid Tsewang Dolma with 21 votes to 19 with three neutral votes – a blank vote and two votes without clear names of candidates.
