Bangladesh terrorist outfit JMB behind Gaya blast: Indian police

DHARAMSALA, Feb 3: The West Bengal police have arrested two persons suspected of having links with the terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in connection with the bomb blast in the holy city of Bodh Gaya earlier in January.
The suspects identified as Mohammad Jiarul and Mohammad Paigambar from JMB were arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal police on Feb 1, reports The Times of India.
The duo has confessed that they had planned eight serial blasts in Bodh Gaya to avenge the alleged atrocities on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, the report added.
The JMB members could not plant the other five IEDs (improvised explosive device) as the first one exploded near the Kalachakra Maidan in Bodh Gaya on January 19, the report said quoting an IPS officer.
The police are said to have recovered Indian passport, cellphone, laptop, electrical tapes, wires and switches, gloves, incriminating documents and 50kg of ammonium nitrate from the suspect’s possession.
“Ammonium nitrate granules were also recovered from partially exploded IED. It was perhaps to increase the destructive power of the bomb,” the officer said in the report.
The suspected duo will be interrogated by NIA soon and following which Bihar police will seek their remand from the court, the report said citing its sources. Further investigations are on.
Amidst heightened security, two bombs were recovered in Bodh Gaya on Jan 19 where His Holiness the Dalai Lama held discourses for over a month since the beginning of January.
