Five contestants to vie for Mr Tibet 2017

DHARAMSALA, Oct 16: Yak Events will hold the first Tibetan male beauty pageant, ‘Mr Tibet 2017’ at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts(TIPA) in Dharamsala.

“Five contestants will compete for the first Tibetan male beauty pageant among our exile Tibetan community, ‘Mr. Tibet 2017 will be held over October 25-28 TIPA, Dharamsala,” Director of Yak events, Tenzin Tashi said earlier at a press conference held at Hotel Norbu House here in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala.

The contestants are Nyima and Tsering Choephel from Bengaluru, Karma Thutop from Bir, Tenzin Londen from Hunsur Rabgyaling Tibetan settlement and Lobsang Choephel from Dharamsala.

22560917_1689130384464698_1650892782_o“We set the age limit of the contestants between 18 – 28 but attending to the requests of the participants and for wider participation from public, we decided to do away with the age limit of the contest,” Tenzin Tashi added.

Mr. Tibet 2017, is open for all bona fide Tibetans with a minimum height of 5.7 feet, who is unmarried, single, not engaged and with no criminal and civil cases.

“The purpose of Mr Tibet 2017 is to create an international platform through the contest for propagation of Tibetan cause, generating a different carrier choice for male Tibetans and solving health problems of youth as the competition requires physical fitness,” Tenzin Tashi concluded.

The four-day competition include Sports and Fitness round, Swim Trunk round, Fashion and Glamour round, Talent and Q & A round and Multimedia round. The swim trunk round will be held at HighLand Village Resort at Norbulingka and the rest of the rounds will be held at the TIPA ground.

The event will have Pavan Shetty, Mr World 2015 as the Chief Judge. Other Judges are Tenzin Jamyang, Mr East India; Sonam Tsering from Canada (organizer of Miss Tibet North America) and a traditional music master from TIPA.

22523592_1689130401131363_1639542229_nA prize money of one lakh and ten thousand rupees and the title of the Mr Tibet will be awarded to the winner and the first and second runners up will get a prize money of rupees seventy thousand and forty thousand respectively.

Yak Events was set up by Tenzin Tashi, a DJ and event organizer by profession on July 14, 2013 and is affiliated to the Department of Commercials, Government of India under the rules 18, 21, and 23.

Apart from organizing ‘Tibetans Got Talent’ in Bylakuppee, Tenzin Tashi, the Director of Yak Events has previously worked with well known Indian companies such Coke, Kingfisher, Magic Moment, Red FM, Zomato and Frootie.
