DHARAMSALA, NOV 29: His Eminence the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorjee was accorded a rousing reception on his maiden visit to Tawang as he landed in India’s north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh yesterday.

The head of the Kagyue lineage, 17th Karmapa thanked the Chief Minister and Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju for the invitation and warm reception. The Karmapa also visited Sera-Jae-Jamyang Choekorling, Sangyeling and the Tawang monastery in the region and addressed a huge congregation of devotees at Tawang monastery.

The Karmapa urged the people to have firm faith on the teachings of Buddha and His Holiness the Dalai Lama and advised them to carry forward the understandings of Buddhist philosophy and science, and to imbibe the same in their daily life, reports The Arunachal Times.

Earlier in October, the US ambassador Richard Verma’s visit to the region has riled Beijing and the latter warned the Indian government that the visit could damage the hard-earned peace and tranquility of the China-India border region.

“Karmapa Lama is our guest and he can visit anywhere he wants in India, China should not intervene in India’s internal matter,” Chief Minister Pema Khandu said after receiving 17th Karmapa according to a report by ANI.
