His Holiness calls for systematic rather than spiritual approach to violence
DHARAMSALA, Nov 19: The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama said praying to God to solve man-made problems is illogical and called for a systematic rather than a spiritual approach to violence.
He made the statement in an interview with German broadcaster Deutsche Welle in the wake of the Paris attacks that killed around 130 people and injured many more.
In the interview he said, “We cannot solve this problem only through prayers,” adding, ‘I am a Buddhist and I believe in praying. But humans have created this problem, and now we are asking God to solve it. It is illogical. God would say, solve it yourself because you created it in the first place.”
The Tibetan leader also stated that a systematic approach to peace and harmony is needed to make this century different from the previous one that has witnessed millions of people being killed.
“We need a systematic approach to foster humanistic values, of oneness and harmony. If we start doing it now, there is hope that this century will be different from the previous one. It is in everybody’s interest,” the 80-yr-old Tibetan Nobel laureate said.
‘So let us work for peace within our families and society, and not expect help from God, Buddha or the governments.”
