Mundgod Doeguling FC wins 21st GCM Gold Cup tournament

DHARAMSALA, June 11: Mundgod Doeguling FC won the 21st Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup tournament by defeating last year’s winner Pokhra Tashiling FC in the final match of the tournament played on Jun 10 at the Upper TCV football ground.

Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay, the political leader of the Tibetan people was the Chief Guest at the event.

Over four thousand people comprising of Tibetans, local Indians and westerners watched the exciting final match that ended with the score line reading 2-1 in Doeguling Mundgod FC’s favour.

The first half of the match remained goalless but Mundgod scored two quality goals in the second half leaving Pokhra FC fuming in frustration. Towards the end of the match when it seemed like Mundgod FC’s goalkeeper, considered by many as the best goal keeper of the tournament, will end the tournament without conceding any goals, Pokhra FC’s No. 9 and the tournament’s highest scorer pulled one back with a superb header from a free kick but it wasn’t enough to win the match and the Gold Cup.2222

Pema Lhundup, Pokhra FC’s jersey No. 9 scored 6 goals in the tournament, becoming the highest goal scorer of the GCMGC 2015.

Along with the coveted GCM gold cup, Mundgod Doeguling FC, the winner of the tournament was awarded a cash prize of INR 100000/-.

Pokhra FC, the runners up was awarded a cash prize of INR 70,000/- and the Fair Play Award was won by Kerala FC.

A total of 28 teams from India, Nepal, United States, Canada and Europe participated in this year’s tournament.

Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA), the organizer of the tournament announced that the 22nd GCMGC tournament will be played in Mundgod Tibetan settlement in the South Indian state of Karnataka.999
