His Holiness the Dalai Lama wishes success to “Europe Stands With Tibet” campaign
Wiesbaden (Germany), 14 July 2015 – His Holiness the Dalai Lama offered his blessings to the campaigners of “Europe Stands With Tibet” and wished them a lot of success and endurance to achieve their goal.
At the occasion of His Holiness’ last stop in Europe before flying back to India, Ven. Thubten Wangchen and Mr. Wangpo Tethong – both members of the steering group of “Europe Stands With Tibet” presented a short report to His Holiness about the campaign that has been initiated by the Tibetan Communities and Tibet Support Groups in Europe. He was very delighted to see Mr. Robert Badinter (France), Mrs. Claudia Roth (Germany) and Mr. Karel Schwarzenberg (Czech Republic) to be the first signers of the so called “Paris Declaration” that forms the basis of the “Europe Stands With Tibet” campaign.
Wangpo Tethong expresses his great joy about the meeting with H.H. the Dalai Lama: “We all need to understand that we face a difficult political situation in Europe and that our collective efforts are needed to challenge Chinese pressure in Europe. On behalf of all the Tibet groups in Europe, I would like to thank His Holiness for his support. His blessings will help a lot!”
Thubten Wangchen is hopeful to achieve a good result: “After the summer holiday the groups in many parts of Europe will start their activities and I hope that a good turn out of supporters for the Paris Declaration can be mobilized.”
The Paris Declaration was launched in Paris on 14 March 2015. The three demands of the declaration to the attention of the European governments and EU institutions are:
1) To develop coordinated policies in regard to the People’s Republic of China and to include effective provisions in bilateral and multilateral treaties with China aimed at bringing about positive change in Tibet
2) To formally receive the Dalai Lama and the democratically elected Tibetan leaders at highest political level.
3) To publicly endorse the proposal for genuine autonomy for the Tibetan people.
