NDPT begins its 7th national conventional meeting

DHARAMSALA, May 25: The National Democratic Party of Tibet (NDPT) began its 7th national conventional meeting at Norbu house in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala on May 24 with His Eminence the Kirti Rinpoche as the Chief Guest.
The meeting, held once every four years is scheduled from May 24 – 26, has in attendance, the Secretary of the central Tibetan Youth Congress, Tashi Lamsang and the President of Himalayan Culture Preservation Centre, Lobsang Phuntsok as Special Guest along with the regional chapters of the National Democratic Party of Tibet.
“NDPT is the only political party formed in exile and for the last two decades, we worked to promote and educate the Tibetan people about the significance of democracy. We nominated and spread awareness about the candidates in the recently concluded election of the 15th Kashag and members of the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-exile,” Gelek Jamyang, NDPT President said while addressing the occasion.
“We will continue to nominate and spread awareness about the candidates running for the parliament seats for better administration and effective governance,” Gelek proposed.
The Special Guest for the meeting, Lobsang Phuntsok spoke about how he got involved with the NDPT, importance of appreciating and practicing the democracy bestowed by His Holiness and actions taken against those who attempted to denigrate His Holiness and spoke ill about the Tibetan administration.
Kirti Rinpoche, the Chief Guest in his address spoke about the importance of NDPT’s role in educating Tibetans about democracy.
“The untoward incident that occurred during the recently concluded Tibetan election which disappointed His Holiness could have been avoided if Tibetans were given proper education and information about democracy,” Rinpoche said.
NDPT will appoint its new executive members during the course of the three-day meeting.
Out of its 35 chapters, 40 people representing 20 chapters such as Bangalore, Bylakuppe, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Mysore made it to the meeting.
