Tibetan Youth Congress urges PM to take up Tibet issue

[TNN] DHARAMSHALA, June 7: Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), an organization of Tibetans united for the restoration of complete independence for Tibet, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up the issue of Tibet with China. According to them, Modi’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections serves as an example to the world that when democratic rights are exercised to its fullest then history can be changed.

“While we acknowledge that Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi will be visiting India soon and the visit will mainly consist of talks in regards to the overall benefits of the two nations, we urge you to speak to your Chinese counterpart on the Tibet issue,” the TYC said in a statement.

It added that as long as China continued to illegally occupy Tibet and oppress the Tibetan people, their demand for independence will go on.

TYC president Tenzing Jigme said, “As we forge our movement forward, we are constantly reminded of the struggle and the determination of the Indian freedom fighters who got rid of the British occupation while remaining steadfastly committed to the principles of ahimsa and non-violence.”
