Tibetans in Dharamsala vote to elect new Settlement Officer

DHARAMSALA, May 25: Tibetans living in Dharamsala today voted in the preliminary round of Dhramsala’s Tibetan Settlement Officer (TSO) election.

Following the resignation of former TSO Sonam Dorjee before his term expired, Tibetans living in Dharamsala, which extends to Tibetans living up to Gopalpur, casted their vote in ten different polling stations today.

dasa_vote1_2016_5_25The results of the preliminary round will be announced on May 28. This round screens the nominees down to two-three candidates for the final round which is on June 6, 2016.

“About 15,000 Tibetans live in Dharamsala, Tibetans who have been paying the voluntary contribution though the green book to Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamshala for at least five years continuously in McLeod Ganj could vote in these elections,” acting Settlement Officer Tsering Lhamo said in earlier reports.
