DHARAMSHALA: Tibetans-in-exile, who are known for their innovative campaigns to rake up their issue against China worldwide, are now targeting US President Barack Obama’s three-day visit to India for their cause.

Many of them are hopeful that apart from discussing issues concerning the two countries, they will also talk about the half-a-century old Tibet issue. Tibetan freedom groups would kickstart various campaigns across India on this occasion.

Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), the largest Tibetan pro-independence group, will hold a massive cleanliness drive across the country to promote Prime Minister Narender Modi’s Clean India Campaign.

President of TYC, Tenzing Jigme said that hundreds of TYC volunteers, Tibetan organizations, schools, monasteries and non-governmental organizations will be participating in a day-long drive.

He said they are looking forward to Obama’s visit to India, which has hosted thousands of Tibetans for over half-a-century now. “We always expect world leaders, especially the US President, to talk on Tibet issue,” Jigme said.

“The international community has a moral responsibility towards Tibet and must push for democracy in China and freedom for Tibet,” said Dorjee Tseten, a prominent leader of Students for Free Tibet, India. He said they have also submitted a memorandum to Obama through the US Embassy in New Delhi urging him to help bring about immediate and positive change for Tibet and hold China accountable for its actions in Tibet.
