Record 9 contestants to compete for Miss Tibet 2017

DHARAMSALA, May 30: Director of Miss Tibet event, Lobsang Wangyal officially presented this year’s contestants at a press conference held today at his studio at Jogiwara road in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala.

The 15th edition of the Miss Tibet pageant has a record nine contestants, the maximum number of contestants since the pageant stated. Prior to this year’s contest, a maximum of six contestants competed in 2006.

18834387_1539261506118254_1698520206_n“I present to you the nine contestants of the 2017 Miss Tibet pageant. The girls are beautiful, intelligent and ambitious with beautiful smiles,” the proud director of the event Lobsang Wangyal said as he presented the contestants to the media.

The contestants are Chemi Kyizom from Delhi, Migmar Dolma from New York, Saldon from Vienna, Tenzin Norzom from Manali, Tenzin Nordon from Chauntra, Tenzin Khechoe from Bangalore, Tenzin Paldon from kollegal, Tenzin Yangkyi and Tenzin Yeshi from Bylakuppe.

The three-day competition from June 2-4 include ‘Swimsuit’ round scheduled in the afternoon of June 2 followed by ‘Talk and Talent’ round in the evening of June 3 at Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) auditorium. The remaining four rounds – Introduction, Gown, Traditional Costume and Interview – will be held in the evening of June 4 at the TIPA ground.

“I would like to thank Tenzin Charlie of Phurba International, a company based in Taiwan and Tenpa Dorjee from California for sponsoring the winners and the first runners up’s prize money and all the generous contributors on pageant’s crowd funding page,” Lobsang wangyal said thanking the sponsors of the prize money and promised to put up a grand show.

18817666_1539261319451606_378959008_oA prize money of rupees one lakh and the Miss Tibet crown will be awarded to the winner and the first and second runners up will get a prize money of rupees fifty thousand and twenty-five thousand respectively.

When enquired about the remarks he made last year that he would pass on the baton to some one else following the 15th edition, probably to a suitor who buys the copyright of his production, Lobsang Wangyal coyly said, I will disclose about it on the night of the grand finale at TIPA on June 4.
