DHARAMSALA, 29 Dec: Police in the Bodh Gaya district of Bihar have sounded a security alert and beefed up security as the authorities search for a suspected Chinese spy.

“Local police has received inputs about a Chinese woman who has been living in Gaya. We were getting inputs on her for the last two years. In view of this, an alert has been given and searches are underway,” ANI quoted Harpreet Kaur, Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) as saying. 

The Gaya SSP has added that “there is no information at present about the location of the Chinese woman”  and that the police “cannot rule out suspicion of her being a Chinese spy.”

As the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness Dalai Lama is currently in Bodh Gaya after nearly two years of hiatus due to COVID-19, media reports said that authorities have beefed up security in and around the Mahabodhi Temple Complex while intensifying the screening of the devotees.

Additionally, the police have reportedly released and circulated sketches of the suspected Chinese spy, identified as Song Xiaolan on social media on Wednesday and requested local residents to provide information about her.

ANI reported that for over a year, the alleged Chinese spy had been living in different parts of India including Bodh Gaya.

According to the report, there is no record in the foreign section about the stay of the Chinese woman.

The Central security and intelligence agencies have also been informed about the development and searches for the suspected Chinese spy is on.
