Talented Tibetan singer shines bright at popular Indian music reality show
DHARAMSALA, July 21: Tenzin Dhonyoe, a talented Tibetan singer from Kalimpong has swept the popular Indian music reality show Dil Hai Hindustani 2.
The music teacher from Rumtek, Sikkim has made it to the Top 13 of the Dil Hai Hindustani 2 where he plays in the band, ‘The Mountain Souls featuring Gaurdeep.’
Like Dhonyoe, another Tibetan Teacher, Tashi Phuntsok who teaches mathematics in Shigatse, Tibet swept a famed Chinese reality television show ‘Sing! China’ and ultimately went on to become the champion.
The Tibetan music teacher from Sikkim can go on and win the popular Indian music reality show and match Tashi Wangchuk’s feat as his band’s performance so far in the show has wooed the audiences and judges with their performance.
But Dhonyoe and his band will first have to battle it out for the top 8 spot on the show with the other contestants on the show hailing from both India and abroad tonite.
Dil Hai Hindustan 2 has two contestants from Russia and one each from Poland and Canada. The show flagged off earlier this month on July 7, and its being broadcasted on Star Plus at 8o’clock on every Saturday and Sunday and streams online on hotstar.
Dhonyoe studied at Central School for Tibetans in Kalimpong and he was into the music since he was in school, he was ranked one of the best singer in the inter-university singing competition when he studied psychology at Sikkim university.
He plays drums, guitar, keyboard, harmonica, flute and dranyen;Tibetan lute and and says his love for music has been influenced by Lucky Ali, Atif Aslam among the Indian singers and with western influences from Elvis Presley, The Beatles and CCR, an America rock band.
Apart from being a music teacher, the singing sensation is a senior artists at both the Kalimpong opera troupe and Ganj Jong Doekar; the Himalayan Tibetan Performing Arts Kalimpong.
