DHARAMSALA, June 12: Tibet Support Group of Arunachal Pradesh (TSGAP) has reiterated its appeal to the government of India to honor His Holiness the Dalai Lama with Bharat Ratna Award.

After its initial appeal to the center last November, TSGAP has again appealed to the government of India to honor the Tibetan Nobel laureate with Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, for his services to India and humanity, reports The Arunachal Pradesh Times.

According to the report, the group has received assurance from the Union Minister to take up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. TSGAP has further submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Union Minister, urging him to consider the proposal.

“His lifelong contribution in spreading the message of compassion, peace and non-violence all over the world in confirmation to the basic principles of our country cannot be ignored. It is the need of hour to strengthen our belief in the principles of non-violence and world peace” the report quoted TSGAP Secretary Nima Sange as saying in a press release.

The TSGAP Secretary has further lauded the Tibetan spiritual leader for contributing a lot for the country in the field of health and education, and stated that conferring Bharat Ratna to the Dalai Lama would send a strong message to China.

TSGAP endorsed the call to award Bharat Ratna to the Dalai Lama after Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Shanta Kumar urged the central government confer the award to the Tibetan spiritual leader for his boundless service to humanity at his book launch in Dharamsala on November 1, 2017.
