Tibetan girls outshine boys in class XII board examination

DHARAMSALA, May 30: Tibetan girls have yet again outshined boys in this year’s class XII board examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

While 665 girls out of 738 have passed the examination, 594 boys out of 704 have passed the examination with the girls pass percentage being 90.11% compared to boys’ 84.38%.

Out of the 1535 Tibetan students who appeared for the examination, 1331 students have passed with 321 students scoring more than 75%, 40 students have failed and 162 students were placed under compartment category (failed in one subject). The overall pass percentage of Tibetan schools is 86.71.

The CBSE declared the examination results on May 29. Out of 16 Tibetan schools that took part in the class XII board examination, only two schools namely, TCV Selakui and CST Bylakuppee have been able to register a pass percentage of 100%.

Sonam Sangmo of TCV Selakui has topped the Science stream with 93.2%, Tsering Dolma TCV SOS Bylakuppee has topped the Commerce stream with 93.2% and Kalsang Dolma of THF Mussoorie has topped the Arts stream with 93%.

No Tibetan student has qualified for the coveted Sikyong scholarship this year, for which a minimum of 95% is required.

Last year Ms. Tenzin Chokyi of THF School Mussoorie was awarded the prestigious Sikyong scholarship of one lakh rupees.
