Tibetan monk-writer released after completing faour and half years’ prison term

DHARAMSALA, Dec 9: A 33-yr-old Tibetan monk-writer was released on Dec 5 after completing four and half years’ prison term.

According to Sonam, a Tibetan living in exile with contacts inside Tibet, Dokru Tsultrim, a monk of Gomang monastery in restive Ngaba region in eastern Tibet was arrested by Chinese police from his monastic quarter in April, 2009 for his literary work that criticized the Chinese government and praised the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He was later sentenced to four and half years in prison.

Authorities also banned the publication of his private literary journal titled, ‘Khawai Tsesog’( Life of Snow) after his arrest.

Apart from Gomang monastery, Dokru Tsultrim had also studied Buddhist philosophy at Mangra Lutsang and Nyitsa monasteries.
