Tibetan Reception Centre staff shot by unknown man

DHARAMSALA, May 8: A Tibetan man was rushed to hospital after he was shot by an unidentified man early this morning at the Tibetan Reception Centre located near Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala.

The victim, Wangchuk, a staff at the centre was shot on the collar bone of his right shoulder at around 4 am this morning. He was immediately rushed to Tanda hospital where he is currently said to be out of danger.

The suspect fled after firing the shot and has not been nabbed yet.

The Department of Security of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) confirmed the shooting incident but could not ascertain the reason behind the incident and said that the local police are investigating the case.

“It is true that a staff of the Tibetan Reception Centre was shot by an unknown person early this morning. We came to know about the incident around 4 am and immediately the victim was rushed to the hospital as he had lost lots of blood. But the shooter’s identity and the reason behind the shooting remain unknown because the victim is being treated at the hospital and the doctor has denied the permission to ask questions as he is critically injured but the doctor has confirmed that his injury not life threatening,” said Kunga Tashi, spokesperson of Depart of Security, CTA.

Asked whether it was a case of burglary gone wrong, he said: “It is still not clear but the more important thing is to save the man’s life. There will be rumors in the society when such incidents happen but currently the incident is being investigated by the Department of Security and the local police. So, gradually things will become clearer.”

Local police officials, staff of the Department of Security and a forensic team have arrived at the Reception Centre and are currently investigating the incident.
