Triple earthquake hits Zatoe county in Tibet

DHARAMSALA, Oct 17: A Series of earthquakes measuring 6.4, 4.6 and 4.2 hit Zatoe county in eastern Tibet’s Yushu Tibetan Autonomus Prefecture earlier today according to the United States Geological survey.

The triple earthquake hit Zatoe country in the afternoon at 12:44, 1:03 and 1:54 respectively. No immediate reports of casualties or damage have been reported yet.

The epicenter was recorded at 32.85 degrees’ north latitude and 94.89 degrees’ east longitude with a depth of 32km, Chinese State media, eng,Tibet.cn reported.

The high seismicity in the Himalayan region, considered to be an earthquake prone area, results mostly from the continental collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates.
