Young Tibetan woman dies in self-immolation protest in restive Ngaba County
DHARAMSALA, Dec 22: A young Tibetan woman has set herself on fire today in restive Ngaba County in Eastern Tibet’s Amdo Province, according to an exiled Tibetan living in Dharamsala with contacts in the region.
The woman, identified as Tsepe Kyi, 20 set herself on fire at around 2 pm (local time) today in Meruma Township in Ngaba County. She died at the protest site and later, Chinese police arrived at the site and took her charred body away.
Tsepe Kyi was a resident of Village No 4 in Meruma Township and is survived by her father, Chudor Rinchen, mother, Chenpa (also known as Lhamo), an elder sister and a younger brother and sister.
Tsepe became the 135th Tibetan from inside Tibet to have self-immolated in protest against repressive Chinese rule in Tibet. Most of the Tibetan self-immolators have called for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and freedom in Tibet.
