Men-TseeKhang, Manipur International University pen historic MoU

DHARAMSALA, 12 Feb: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Men-Tsee-Khang, the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute based in Dharamsala and the Manipur International University (MIU) for a “historic collaboration”.

Tashi Tsering Phuri, the director of Men-Tsee-Khang called the MoU a historic after he signed it with Dr Harikumar Pallathadka, Chancellor of  MIU today at a press conference held today at the premier institute of Tibetan medicine (Sowa-Rigpa) here.

“In nearly sixty years of Men-Tsee-Khang’s existence in India, collaborations are taking place, not only with groups in India but several abroad. But, the offers from our partners have never been like that of the MIU. Therefore, the signing of MoU today is historic,” Tashi Tsering Phuri said.

The agreement will see Men-Tsee-Khang set up degree courses in Tibetan Medicine such as Kachupa Degree, Menrampa Degree, Research, Pharmacology, Astro-Science and in other fields where Men-Tsee-Khang has expertise at the MIU situated in the scenic state of Manipur in northeastern India.

The MIU has further provided 2,500 acres of land to set up the sowa rigpa degree courses at the university to Men-Tsee-Khang beside providing the finances for the construction while Men-Tsee-Khang will cater to the human capital needs.

Dr Harikumar Pallathadka, the Chancellor of  MIU described Tibetan Medicine as “priceless” and its preservation, revival and promotion of utmost importance.

The Chancellor further said that if the construction of the Sowa-Rigpa campus requires more than 2,500 acres of land, MIU is more than happy to oblige.

Both the signatories described the project, a brainchild of His Holiness the Dalai Lama that came forth as a result of his visit to Imphal, capital of Manipur in 2017.

Though it is understood that the construction and other formalities for the project will take some time, meanwhile, MenTsee-Khang will start a branch clinic at the MIU on 1 March 2020.

Manipur International University (MIU) was founded in 2018. It is an Autonomous State Public University established and recognised by the State Government of Manipur as well as recognized and listed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Govt. of India.
