US-based Tibetan monk distributes Rs 1 million to needy Tibetans in five settlements across South India

 DHARAMSALA, 11 May: A US-based Tibetan monk, Geshe Ngawang Thinley of Sera Jey Tehor Khangtsen has donated  1 million rupees to the needy Tibetans in the five major Tibetan settlements in South India.

Relief money of Rs 5000 each to 39 Tibetans was distributed to needy Tibetans in South India by the Tibetan monk through the Chief Representative Office in Bengaluru on 9th May, reported Tibet.net, the official webpage of the Central Tibetan Administration.

The relief money was offered to destitute elders, infirm health, students and individuals running small businesses in the presence of the Chief Representative Chophel Thupten, respective Settlement Officers, Geshe Thupten Thapkey and representatives of Tehor Khangtsen, Sera Jey, the report added.

The Tibetan monk has reached out to help fellow Tibetans with the money he reportedly received from others as his birthday gift.

The beneficiaries were Tibetans from Lugsam Samdupling and Dickyi Larsoe Tibetan settlement in Bylakuppe along with Mundgod, Kollegal and Hunsur Tibetan settlement.

Tibetans, both individually and collectively continue to undertake various relief measures as the world battles COVID-19 pandemic that originated from Wuhan, China.

Meanwhile,  the President of the CTA Dr Lobsang Sangay on 7 May announced 50 lakhs immediate relief for the distressed Tibetans who are presently stranded outside their settlements and those who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

So far, the coronavirus has infected 4,103,241 people, and killed at least 282,728, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
