DHARAMSALA, 3 Aug: A Chinese virologist and whistleblower who fled to the US has claimed that Coronavirus came from a Chinese military lab.
Dr Yan Li-Meng has said that she made the discovery while studying the person-to-person transmission of the virus at the University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health when the coronavirus pandemic began, reports the Taiwan News.
The Chinese virologist who was employed as a researcher at the University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health when the coronavirus pandemic began has made the disclosure after she fled to the US fearing for her life, the report noted.
“At that time, I had clearly assessed that the virus came from a Chinese Communist Party military lab. The Wuhan wet market was just used as a decoy,” she was quoted as saying in the report.
According to the report, she has previously accused Beijing of covering up the initial outbreak in Wuhan, where the pandemic originated from because “as a doctor and scientist,” she says “she really could not remain indifferent.”
She has further claimed that her findings fell to the deaf ears of her superiors when she reported it to them.
The virologist has stated in the report that it was her responsibility to get the information out before being “disappeared.”
“I knew that once I spoke up, I could disappear at any time, just like all the brave protesters in Hong Kong. I could disappear at any time. Even my name would no longer exist.”
She has further accused the WHO of being an accomplice with the Chinese regime in the cover-up.
Professor Malik Peiris, visiting professor and co-director of a WHO-affiliated lab in the university knew of her findings, she says in the report and added that her former supervisor, Leo Poon who initially advised her to continue her investigation later wind up telling her to “keep silent and be careful” as she delivered more evidence to support her findings.
