DHARAMSALA, 5 May: In the wake of a sharp surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the State, Himachal Pradesh has announced a strict “ten-day Corona curfew” from 6 am of 7th May – 6 am of 16th May to “break the virus chain,” in addition to the restrictions already in place in the state.
“In order to break the virus chain, the State Cabinet decided to impose Corona curfew in the whole State,” the Himachal state government headed by Chief Minister announced today after he chaired a cabinet meeting to review the Covid-19 situation in the State.
“All the government and private offices/ establishments would remain closed from 7 May 2021 to midnight of 16 May 2021 and the Educational institutions in the State would remain closed till 31 May 2021,” the cabinet has decided as it expressed concern over the sharp surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the State.
The cabinet has stated that “all essential services such as health, electricity, telecommunication, water supply, sanitation etc. would remain open,” while the order also stated that “work would continue at civil work sites, horticultural/agricultural and other project sites.
The strict curfew will see all government and private transport run at 50 per cent of occupancy” and inter-state transport to continue.
The Cabinet also announced that a negative RT-PCR test report, not older than 72 hours is a must for everyone to enter the state.
Taking a cue from the CBSE, the state has decided to cancel the annual examination of the 10th standard of Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education and promote all the students to 11th standard besides suspending the state’s 12th standard exam and annual examination of colleges till further orders.
The order further restricts the assembly of more than 5 people during the curfew period while advising against the outdoor movement of those above 65 years of age, people with co-morbidities, pregnant and lactating women as well as children below the age of 10 years except for essential and health purposes.
The development came after Himachal recorded its highest daily Covid-19 cases on Tuesday.
Himachal recorded 3,824 fresh Covid-19 cases and 48 deaths, media reports said citing official sources from the administration. The tally now stands at 1,10,945 cases so far, 23,572 active cases and 1,647 deaths.

Kangra today reported 1296 cases and 12 deaths. Himachal’s most populated district leads the list of most active cases in the state with 6,872 positive cases.
Last month, Kangra was placed under daily night curfew from 10 Pm to 5 am and weekend lockdown to contain the spread of the pandemic in the region by the authorities from 20th April till further notice.
