US envoy to India meets Dalai Lama’s representative

DHARAMSALA, 11 Aug: The US envoy to New Delhi has met with the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Bureau office in New Delhi to assure continued support for Tibet to extend the US support for the preservation of “Tibetans’ unique cultural and linguistic identities”.

Keshap, 50, the Indian-American envoy confirmed his meeting with Ngodup Dongchung, the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New Delhi by tweeting that “Enjoyed meeting with Ngodup Dongchung, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The US supports religious freedom and the preservation of Tibetans’ unique cultural and linguistic identities and respects the @DalaiLama’s vision of equal rights for all people.”

The meeting between the two on Tuesday morning lasted for an hour, media reports said but it remains to be seen how China reacts to it.

Beijing reacted sharply last month after a meeting between the US Secretary of State Blinken and the representative of the Dalai Lama in the Indian capital to assure continued support for Tibet under US President Biden’s administration.
