Dalai Lama condoles demise of Dr Martínez Moreno

DHARAMSALA, 6 Oct: The Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has offered his condolences over the demise of Dr Alfredo Martinez Moreno.

Offering his condolences to Dr Alicia Martinez, the widow of Dr Martinez and his family, the Dalai Lama has stated that “I was very sorry to learn of the passing of my friend Dr Alfredo Moreno at the age of 98. I offer my condolences to you and your family.”

“As you know your husband was a member of your nation’s delegation to the United Nations in November 1950. It was El Salvador that first raised the issue of Tibet at the UN, for which we remain very grateful,” the condolence letter read.

Describing the renowned jurist, diplomat and academic as a long time supporter of the Tibet cause the Tibetan Nobel Laureate has stated that “Over the years, I met your husband on several occasions and was always deeply appreciative of his interest in and support for the freedom and dignity of the Tibetan people.”

The octogenarian Tibetan leader has further stated in the missive that although Dr Moreno is no longer with us, “we can take comfort in the fact that he lived a meaningful life of service of others,” and concluded by offering his prayers for the departed soul.

Dr Alfredo Martínez Moreno, one of the most prominent lawyers in the history of El Salvador, passed away on Saturday night in San Salvador, at the age of 98, media reports said citing his relatives.
