DHARAMSALA, 13 Dec: The Tibetan Parliament-in-exile(TPIE) has thanked the countries who have announced the diplomatic boycott of the Beijing 2022 winter Olympics and urged others to follow suit “to express their solidarity with humanity, ethical values, and truth.”

“As the Beijing Winter Olympics nears, many countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the U.S, and the U.K, have come forward to diplomatically boycott this game,” the TPIE stated in its statement welcoming and applauding the gesture of what it described as freedom-loving countries.

The Diplomatic boycott of the Beijing games “signifies the victory of Human Rights over economical and other benefits,” it said and added that “We consider this a brave and courageous act and would encourage other countries to consider it.”

According to the statement released earlier today, the legislative assembly of exiled Tibetans declared that China has failed to uphold the universal and fundamental ethical values over many decades and that Tibetans inside Tibet continue to suffer under the atrocious rule of China, deprived of basic human rights including freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and freedom of movement.

As such, it maintained that the diplomatic boycott of the Beijing games “sends a strong message that Human value is held above all” and urged the world leaders to express their concern and raise their voice over China’s human rights violations and religious repression in Tibet.

“We appeal the other world leaders to consider the diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics to express their solidarity with humanity, ethical values, and truth.”

Earlier in March, The Tibetan parliament in exile unanimously approved a resolution at its 10th session calling on the Tibetan cabinet, the parliament as well as all governmental and non-governmental Tibetan entities to launch a worldwide campaign of protests against the Beijing Olympics.

The Games are scheduled to begin on 4 Feb next year, but calls to boycott it continue to get steam.

So far, at least 7 countries have announced the diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing over China’s ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity.
