Tibetan woman arrested in Ngaba for lone protest

Chinese police have arrested a young Tibetan mother of two for staging lone protest in restive Ngaba county.

Holding a portrait of the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Wangmo staged her protest on the main street in Meruma township in Ngaba county in the traditional Tibetan province of Amdo. While peacefully marching on the street, she raised slogans calling for the ‘return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet’ and ‘freedom for Tibetans’. Minutes in to the protest, Chinese police arrived at the protest site and arrested her.

Due to restrictions in the area, her whereabouts and condition remain unknown.

Wangmo, believed to be around 22, hails from Camp No. 3 in Meruma township. She was born to father Shechen and mother Gyal. She is married to Tenzin of ZungduekyiTsang family and has two children.
