CTA President meets with US House Speaker Pelosi

DHARAMSALA, 29 April: The President of the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA), Penpa Tsering has met with the US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The CTA President who is presently on an official visit to the US on the invitation of the US Speaker was accompanied by the Representative of the Office of Tibet, Washington DC Dr Namgyal Choedup, Richard Gere and Bhuchung Tsering, the chairman and the Vice-chairman of the Washington-based International Campaign for Tibet(ICT) along with the abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, Zeekyab Rinpoche and a delegation of CTA.

At the hour-long meeting that took place on Thursday, “discussions were held on the urgent issue of Tibet including the case of Tibet’s 11th Panchen Lama Gedhun Choekyi Nyima” as well as deliberations on “collective decisions on their future course of action in regard to resolving the Sino-Tibet conflict,” reports www.tibet.net, the CTA’s official website.

Though the report did not divulge much of the meeting details, it added that the CTA President presented a letter from His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Speaker Pelosi at the meeting.

The CTA President later took to Twitter to thank Speaker Pelosi for her continued support. “It was such an honour meeting her today. Thank you, Madam Speaker, for all that you do” he tweeted. 

Following the meeting with the US House Speaker, the CTA President has also met with some US lawmakers from both sides of the aisle such as  Congressman McCaul, Senator James E. Risch, Senator Patrick Leahy, and Senator Menendez.
