CTA President, Speaker congratulates India’s new President
DHARAMSALA, 22 July: The political head of the Tibetan people, Penpa Tsering and the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, have extended their congratulations to Draupadi Murmu, India’s new President.
Congratulating Draupadi Murmu who became India’s new President on Thursday on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) and the Tibetan people, the CTA President Penpa Tsering has said in a missive, “I am greatly honoured to extend our warmest greetings on your election as the 15th President of the Republic of India.”
President Tsering has described Draupadi Murmu’s election victory as “a fitting culmination of the decades of service” she has rendered for her country and added that “We join the people of India in celebrating this moment of significant pride and joy.”
“I am confident that your able leadership would further strengthen India’s democracy and steer the nation to greater heights,” he wrote.
The CTA President has also “extended his gratitude to the people and government of India for their continued support and generosity,” to the Tibetans and concluded by offering the President-elect the best wishes in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of India.
“We wish you the best as you take on the responsibility and challenges of your high office in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of India. Once again, please accept our heartiest congratulations.”
Extending his “heartfelt congratulations,” to the President-elect on behalf of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and all Tibetans in and outside Tibet, Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel wrote, “I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt congratulation to you, on behalf of the entire Tibetan people and the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile on your victory to the highest office as the 15th President of India and the first tribal Woman President in the Indian History.”
Like the CTA President, the Speaker has also thanked the people and the government of India for consistently supporting the Tibetans and the non-violent struggle of Tibet for more than six decades.
“We wish you the best for your noble future endeavours towards fulfilling the aspirations of the Indian people. We are certain that working towards the betterment of world peace will be on your top priorities in the years to come.”
Former Jharkhand Governor and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Droupadi Murmu became the 15th President of India on Thursday.
Murmu received 2,824 votes of 6,76,803 value against the opposing candidate Yashwant Sinha’s 1,877 votes or 3,80,177 value in the presidential election.
The 64-year-old is the first tribal woman to be elected to the position and she will also become the youngest president of India when she will be sworn in on 25 July.
