DHARAMSALA, 15 Sept: His Holiness the Dalai Lama began a two-day teachings on Chandrakirti’s Entering the Middle Way in conjunction with the Autocommentary (uma jukpa rangdrel thok ney) today at Tsug-lag-Khang, the main temple in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala.
The teaching is being held at the request in the mornings at the request of a group of Southeast Asians at the Main Tibetan Temple.
The Tibetan spiritual leader spoke about the importance of including love in the modern education system.
“While Mahatma Gandhi provided insightful views on non-violence when it comes to compassion, he left it a bit inadequate. Therefore the need for a curriculum on secular ethics to teach children about compassion is very important,” the Dalai Lama said.
After completing the first day’s teaching, the Tibetan spiritual leader urged everyone in the congregation to stay happy. “If you stay happy then you will have peace of mind. Otherwise, if you are unhappy, you will develop pride, jealousy and so forth.”
“If you are happy and at ease with yourself, then you will also remain cheerful. Peace of mind is very important. ”

While the Dalai Lama conducted the teaching in Tibetan, translations are available in English, Chinese, Hindi, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Russian, Mongolian Spanish, German and French.
Over five thousand devotees in total, of which 500 had come from Southeast Asian countries gathered today to attend the first day of the teaching.
