DHARAMSALA, 05 May: A Tibetan secondary school teacher who had been detained incommunicado since 10th April has been released from detention but is being held under house arrest and terminated from his employment, reports Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy(TCHRD).

According to TCHRD, the Tibetan teacher was detained in April for expressing joy at seeing the Dalai Lama in the video that was given free run on Chinese cyberspace like Weibo, Douyin and WeChat.

“Even though we lack the good fortune of meeting His Holiness, it is a blessing to be able to watch him online albeit in a distorted way,” the Tibetan school teacher has said reacting to the video of the interaction between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and an Indian boy.

“This is an auspicious sign that His Holiness will return to Tibet soon,” the teacher has said and added before he was detained, that “We, teachers and students alike, must pray wholeheartedly as this opportunity to watch him online is as auspicious as meeting him personally.”

Though the Chinese authorities have banned photos of the Dalai Lama in Tibet, the doctored-video of the Dalai Lama which became the most viral video in China between 14-17 April came as a blessing in disguise to Tibetans inside Tibet. The name and the identity of the teacher from Ngaba is being withheld for security reasons.
