DHARAMSALA, 12 Sept: His Holiness the Dalai Lama has expressed profound sorrow and offered condolences to Morocco following the catastrophic earthquake that resulted in a significant loss of life, as well as extensive damage to property and infrastructure. His message of empathy was conveyed in a formal letter addressed to His Excellency, the Prime Minister of Morocco.
In the heartfelt letter, The Dalai Lama conveyed his condolences, saying, “I offer my condolences to Your Excellency, the families of those who have lost loved ones, and pray for all those affected by this great tragedy.”
Recognizing the dedicated efforts of the Moroccan government in providing support and assistance to the affected areas, the Dalai Lama also acknowledged the swift response from the international community in dispatching aid to bolster recovery and relief operations.
In a gesture of solidarity with the people of Morocco during this challenging time, the octogenarian Tibetan leader has directed the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama to make a donation towards the rescue and relief efforts supporting the ongoing rescue and relief endeavours in the earthquake-affected regions.
The Dalai Lama concluded his message by offering prayers for the well-being and recovery of those impacted by the earthquake, expressing his compassion and unwavering support during this difficult period.
Devastating Earthquake Strikes Morocco, Leaving a Trail of Destruction.
On September 11th, a devastating earthquake with its epicenter in the High Atlas Mountains, located 71 kilometers (44 miles) southwest of Marrakesh, struck Morocco.
The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale, resulted in a tragic loss of 2,800 lives and left more than 1,400 individuals with varying degrees of injuries.
This earthquake has caused extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and communities, plunging many into a state of shock and grief.
In response to this catastrophe, the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, has declared three days of national mourning and has issued orders for the provision of shelter, food, and other essential assistance to survivors.
