DHARAMSALA, 20 Oct: In response to a “recent bout of the flu,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, has been advised by his personal physicians to abstain from travel, as it would be physically “taxing” and could “hamper his full recovery,” the Office of the Dalai Lama has announced.
“After careful consideration, we have decided not to visit Sikkim in the month of November 2023 and to also cancel His Holiness’ planned visit to South India (Bylakuppe and Hunsur) scheduled in the second half of November to mid-December 2023,” the statement read.
However, it’s important to note that there is no change to the Dalai Lama’s upcoming visit to Bodhgaya, which is set to commence in the second half of December 2023.
Meanwhile, the Dalai Lama’s upcoming program includes a “Long Life Offering Ceremony on 25 October 2023 at the Main Tibetan Temple here in Dharamsala.
The Long Life Offering Ceremony is being jointly organised by the students, staff, and ex-students of the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics, Sera Je Hardong Khangtsen, Tibetan Chamber of Commerce, and Lha Ngam Phun sum (Lhatse Dzong, Ngamring Dzong, and Phuntsoling Dzong).
