Tibetan Electoral Reforms Committee established

DHARAMSALA, June 22: Tibetan Electoral Reforms Committee (TERC) comprising of a Kalon, Chief Election Commissioner and three parliamentarians, appointed by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan parliament has been formed to make reforms in the Tibetan electoral process.

As per the directives of Tibetan Parliament after a resolution was passed during the first session of the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, TERC was formed with Kalon Mr Karma Yeshi, Election Commissioner Mr Sonam Choephel Shosur, Tibetan parliamentarians Mr Pema Jungney, Ven Monalm Tharchin and Mr Gyarik Thar.

Kalon Mr Karma Yeshi is the Chairman and Ven Monalm Tharchin is the Secretary of the new committee according to a report on Tibet.net , Central Tibetan Administration’s official website.

The committee has met with Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Deputy Speaker Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok on Monday, June 20 to seek the Tibetan Parliament’s guidance and recommendations and started working since then.

Earlier in April 25 during a press conference, Sikyong Sangay briefed the media on the draft proposal following detail discussions he has had with the Election Commissioner and his deputies.
