The Director of Education council, Mr Tsering Samdup in his opening address briefed the emergence of the textbooks as a collective effort of Sherig (education) department and Tibetan representatives of North America.
Sikyong Sangay launched the three textbooks to be taught for children of kindergarten, class 1 and 2 during their weekend language class in various Tibetan communities in North America.
Later in his address, Sikyong lauded Education Council for successfully compiling the Tibetan textbooks and launching the website bodyig.net/info recently as an easy and effective mode of learning Tibetan language.
“China’s hard line policy of sinicization of Tibet, our culture, religion and language are aimed to decimate the unique Tibetan identity and reduce our struggle to a movement without cause. I applaud the Education Council’s contribution towards maintaining our identity and dignity,” Sikyong said.
The Education Council of CTA will later release textbooks for children of class 3 – 8 in September 2016.
