Sikyong launches Tibetan textbooks for North America Tibetan children

DHARAMSALA, June 30: Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay, the political head of Central Tibetan Administration(CTA), launched three Tibetan language textbooks for Tibetan children attending weekend language classes in North America.

The event was attended by Sikyong cum Education Kalon, Dr Sangay as the Chief Guest along with Education Secretary, Dr Ngawang Rabgyal, Director of Education Council, Mr Tsering Samdup, Director of Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society, Mr Karma Chungdak and principals of various Tibetan schools.

13566059_1198559366855138_1199354427_nThe Director of Education council, Mr Tsering Samdup in his opening address briefed the emergence of the textbooks as a collective effort of Sherig (education) department and Tibetan representatives of North America.

Sikyong Sangay launched the three textbooks to be taught for children of kindergarten, class 1 and 2 during their weekend language class in various Tibetan communities in North America.

Later in his address, Sikyong lauded Education Council for successfully compiling the Tibetan textbooks and launching the  website bodyig.net/info recently as an easy and effective mode of learning Tibetan language.

13553302_1198558090188599_789579696_n“China’s hard line policy of sinicization of Tibet, our culture, religion and language are aimed to decimate the unique Tibetan identity and reduce our struggle to a movement without cause. I applaud the Education Council’s contribution towards maintaining our identity and dignity,” Sikyong said.

The Education Council of CTA will later release textbooks for children of class 3 – 8 in September 2016.
