CTA plans series of events to mark 2014 as “Year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama”

DHARAMSALA, May 23: The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) will observe 2014 as the “Year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama” by organizing a series of events across the world from June to December to celebrate the Tibetan spiritual leader’s remarkable achievements, express gratitude of the Tibetan people for his visionary leadership and pay tribute to his contribution to the Tibet cause and world peace.

“Twenty five events will be organised across the world to celebrate the year from June to December. The departments of the Central Tibetan Administration involved in organising the events are Religion and Culture, Home, Education, Department of Information & International Relations and Health,” Mr Tashi Phuntsok, Secretary for the Department of Information & International Relations and co-chairman of the organising committee said at a press conference held today.

“The CTA plans to invite Nobel Peace laureates to Dharamsala and Delhi on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 to express appreciation for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s commitment to promote non-violence and dialogue to resolve conflicts,” Secretary Tashi added.

Special events will also be held on July 6th and December 10th this year to celebrate His Holiness’ 79th birthday and the 25th anniversary of the conferment of Nobel peace prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama respectively.

The declaration to observe 2014 as the “Year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama” was made by the Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay, the elected head of the Tibetan people, in his statement on 10 March this year and subsequently by the Parliament.
