Fourth session of 16th Tibetan Parliament begins

DHARAMSALA, Sep 19: The fourth session of the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile began today to discuss the work reports of the seven departments of the Central Tibetan Administration.

21895271_1631401283550401_1294184294_oOn the first day of the current session, the Parliament passed five unanimous resolutions to mourn the demise of 103rd Gaden Tripa Kyabje Jetsun Lobsang Tenzin Rinpoche, 33rd Kyabje Menri Trizin, spiritual head of Bon tradition, self-immolaters Pema Gyaltsen, Wangchuk Tseten, Chagdor Kyab and Jamyang Losel; self-immolaters Tenzin Choeying and Dhondup, and former Tibetan parliamentarian Zongkhatsang Tsering Dolma. The Parliament also a passed a unanimous resolution to express solidarity with Tibetan people inside Tibet who are suffering under repressive Chinese rule in Tibet.

Speaker Sonam Tenphel, in his opening remarks reaffirmed the Tibetan Parliament’s firm commitment to Middle Way Approach and called on the Chinese leaders to consider the proposals of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the CTA to resolve the issue of Tibet through dialogue. The Speaker also highlighted the ill-advised developmental projects being carried out in Tibet at the cost of the fragile Tibetan environment.

Apart from the work reports of the various departments of the CTA, during the ten-day parliamentary session that will conclude on Sep 28, members will deliberate on the prevailing critical situation inside Tibet and other issues of concern within the Tibetan community in exile.21895258_1631401270217069_1836974171_o-768x512
