Exiled Tibetans to take part in Himachal Pradesh assembly elections

DHARAMSALA, Oct 2: A total of 217 Tibetans from Dharamsala and 1047 from Bir will cast their vote in the state assembly elections for the first time.

“There are total 1400 Tibetan voters in state according to the records available with us,” Times of India quoted Shravan Manta, Sub Divisional Magistrate of Dharamshala as saying a report.

22207499_1674138132630590_526589899_nAccording to the report, the exiled Tibetans are participating in assembly elections in India for the first time. Tibetans are said to have started registering for the upcoming Himachal assembly elections during the last parliamentary elections.

The Election Commission of India granted voting rights to Tibetans in 2014.

Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election will be held in late 2017 to elect 68 members as the term of current Legislative Assembly ends on 7 January, 2018.
