DHARAMSALA, Nov 3: His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave teaching on Tsongkhapa’s ‘The Three Principal Paths’ (Lamtso Namsum) today at Tsug-lag-Khang, the main temple in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala.
The teaching is being held at the request of Namgyal Monastery, the Tibetan spiritual leader’s personal monastery for the two hundred Vietnamese and Italian sponsors of Namgyal Monastery School which the Dalai Lama inaugurated yesterday.
Along with Namgyal Monastery’s Vietnamese and Italian sponsors, some devotees from Mon community, some newly arrived Tibetans from Tibet and hundreds of local Tibetans and foreigners have gathered for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s teaching. The translations of the teaching were available in English, Vietnamese, Korean, Hindi, Japanese, Italian, German and Chinese.
“We are in the 21st century and we have witnessed a great deal of development in terms of materialistic world. Our past generations might have assumed that materialistic development would bring peace and happiness, but in reality, materialistic development has become a source of problem and created uncertainty and fear among human kind,” the Dalai Lama remarked in his introductory teachings ahead of the actual teaching on Tsongkhapa’s ‘The Three Principal Paths’.
“Every religion preaches kindheartedness, patience and self discipline but unfortunately religion has become the source of problem these days,” His Holiness said referring to Rohingya crisis in Myanmar and Sunni and Shia conflict.
“If we think about other’s wellbeing and the common good instead of being carelessly selfish we surely can get rid of all the manmade problems that have plagued our times,” His Holiness concluded.
The Tibetan spiritual leader will speak at a national conference on Science, Religion and World Peace at Government Degree College, Dharamshala tomorrow which is being organized by Bhaktivedanta Institute, Karnal.
