Second North American GCMGC to be held in New York, USA

DHARAMSALA, Nov 8: The second edition of the North American ‘Gyalyum Chemo Memorial Gold Cup’ (GCMGC) to be held in New York, USA in 2018.

Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) in collaboration with Tibetan Community of New York & New Jersey (TCNYNJ) will host the second edition of the GCMGC in New York, USA over Aug 31 – Sept 3 in 2018, TNSA announced in a press release earlier today.

TNSA in collaboration with Tibetan Canadian Cultural Centre hosted the first North American GCMGC in Toronto, Canada over July 7-10, 2016 to commemorate His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 81st birthday. Twelve teams from the United States and Canada took part in the tournament. Toronto Cholsum FC was crowned the champion after defeating New York Tibet United in the final match of the tournament on penalties (4-3).

Following the success of the tournament, TNSA’s previous Secretary Kalsang Dhondup expressed his hopes and willingness to host the tournament on a regular basis.

GCMGC is the biggest sporting event in the Tibetan Community and is played annually in the memory of the great mother of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in India.
