DHARAMSALA, March 14: The Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, Khenpo Sonam Tenphel called for the unity amongst the Tibetan people as he flagged off the budget session for the financial year 2018-2019 of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile today.

“The success of the Tibetan movement depends on the unity of the Tibetan people,” Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel said in his opening remarks calling for unity among the Tibetan people and demanded China to respect the rights of the ethnic minorities in China including the Tibetan people.

The Speaker further stated that in spite of the Tibetan Administration’s firm stand and commitment to peacefully resolve the issue of Tibet through its ‘Middle Way Approach, the Chinese Government has stalled the Sino-Tibetan dialogue to amicably resolve the Tibetan issue since 2010 and urged the Chinese government to resume peaceful Sino-Tibet negotiation on the issue of Tibet with the envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in his address to the House.

The legislators unanimously passed resolutions to express solidarity with the suffering of the Tibetans inside Tibet, to mourn the demise of Tibetan self-immolator Tenga, Konpe and Tsekho as well as Dr N K Trikha, a long time friend and supporter of the Tibetan cause and former Tibetan parliamentarian Lobsang Tenzin.

The fifth session of the 16th Tibetan Parliament will commence from March 14- 24.  The Tibetan lawmakers will discuss and approve the budget of the Central Tibetan Administration for the year 2018-19.
