His Holiness’ begins three-day teaching for Tibetan youth
DHARAMSALA, June 6: His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s annual Buddhist teaching for the Tibetan youth from schools and colleges began today at Tsug-lag-Khang, the main temple in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala.
As many as 9165 devotees, of which 3500 are Tibetan students form schools and colleges across India and 5665 local Tibetan and foreigners from 64 different countries have gathered for the Tibetan spiritual leader’s three day’s teaching.
During the morning teachings form June 6-8, the Tibetan spiritual leader will teach on Shantideva’s ‘A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life’.
“We should believe in our religion but at the same time we should also respect other religions,” the Dalai Lama said in his introductory teachings ahead of the actual teaching on Shantideva’s ‘A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life’.
The Tibetan spiritual leader said materialistic development alone is not enough without developing the heart and sense of compassionate for others.
The Tibetan spiritual leader further added that the basic human nature is compassionate and urged every one to work together to promote peace and make the 21st century a century of peace.
His Holiness told the gathering that he proposed to teach on Shantideva’s ‘A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life’ so that the Tibetan youth can go through the text at home when one goes through periods of emotional instability and mental disturbances.
The Dalai Lama further suggested that during such times one can read the sixth chapter of the text and suggested chapter eight to be read to control one’s anger which results due to self centeredness thinking.
Organized by the Buddhism Introductory Committee of Dharamshala, it is the 12th edition of teachings for the Tibetan students. The first edition was held at the Upper TCV school in 2007.
