Gu-Chu-Sum Movement of Tibet marks its 27th anniversary, launches a year-long travelling exhibition
DHARAMSALA, Sept 27: Gu-Chu- Sum Movement of Tibet, an organization of former political prisoners of Tibet launched a new travelling exhibition today as the organization marked its 27th anniversary as well as the 31st anniversary of the September 27, 1987 uprising in Lhasa, Tibet’s capital.
The Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok attended the event as the Chief Guest and inaugurated Gu-Chu- Sum’s year-long travelling exhibition of photos titled ‘Tibet and its deteriorating Human Rights Situation at the Hotel Club House here in Dharamsala.
The Deputy Speaker in his key address called the exhibition true representation of the present plight and the status of Tibet and Tibetans under China’s repression and further stated that it will enlighten and educate the new and younger Tibetan generations about Tibet and the Tibetan freedom struggle.
“Pictures and visual proofs are more appealing and effective. The exhibition showcases truth in its entirety and it will help to amplify support and awareness about the Tibetan issue,” the Deputy speaker said.
“Today marks an important day to Gu-Chu- Sum Movement of Tibet as the organization was established 27 years ago today as well as it’s the 31st anniversary of the 1987 peaceful uprising in Tibet,” said Lhagyari Namgyal Dolkar, the President of Gu-Chu-Sum Movement of Tibet.
“In spite of the Chinese government’s repeated lies, this is the reality in Tibet,” Gu-Chu- Sum’s President added pointing to the photos on display.
The organization of former political prisoners of Tibet’s travelling exhibition of photos showcases the general history of Tibet as a distinct polity before its forced annexation by the Mao’s Liberation Army, the tragedy that befell on the Tibetan people under an alien occupation and the deteriorating human rights situation inside Tibet.
Before the Exhibition will travel to Tibetan settlements and schools across India, it is open to the general public from 1-6 pm today at the Hotel Club House.
Lhagyari Namgyal Dolkar further made an appeal to the general public to get in touch with the organisation if any individual or organisation would like to assist and support them with the exhibition.
Gu-Chu-Sum Movement of Tibet, the Dharamsala based organization of former political prisoners of Tibet was established on Sept. 27, 1991.
The Tibetan words Gu-Chu-Sum stands for numbers 9, 10 and 3 which signifies September 1987, October 1987, and March 1988 uprising in Tibet against the tyrannical Chinese invasion and its misrule in Tibet since 1959.
