First-ever Tibetan Rice Mill launches its products; 4 different rice types

DHARAMSALA, Jan 15: Tibet Rice Mill, a multi-purpose of Co-operative Society of Norgyaling Tibetan Settlement launched its products today here in Dharamsala, the exile headquarters of the Tibetan refugees.

A line of four different Tibetan premium rice; aromatic rice, two types of silky rice and Brown rice were unveiled by the Tibet Rice Mill at a press conference held earlier today at the Nyatri hall in Central Tibetan Secretariat.

The press conference was chaired by the Dr Kunchok Tsundue, the Chief planning officer of the Central Tibetan Administration flanked by the Chairman and the secretary Co-operative Society of Tibetan, Norgyaling Tibetan Settlement(Bhandhara) and a representative from the CTA’s Home Department.

Dr Kunchok Tsundue said in his address that as Bhandhara is known as the rice treasure of India, the dams in the vicinity of Tibetan settlement assist Tibetans to a large extent in rice cultivation.

“The rice mill benefits Tibetans as well as locals alike,” he said while he remains optimistic that the Tibetan premium rice has the capability to make headways into the Tibetan community and the Indian market gradually.

Inaugurated by the Home Kalon(Minister) Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang of the CTA on Sept. 7, 2018, The Tibet Rice Mill in Bhandhara is the first ever Tibetan rice mill.

The Tibet Rice Mill was set up with funding support primarily from The Dalai Lama Trust and the Central Tibetan Relief Committee to enable local farmers to generate extra income for their livelihood.
