After ten months in detention Drilda monastery monk sentenced to ten years in prison

DHARAMSALA, Jan 28: A Tibetan Buddhist monk who was arrested last march along with three other fellow monks of Drilda monastery in Trido Township in former Kham Province’s Sog County has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

Tsewang was arrested on Mar 17, 2014 along with three other fellow monks of Drilda monastery including the monastery’s chant master, Tsangyang Gyatso who was sentenced to 12 years in prison last October for contacting Tibetans in exile and inciting other monks from his monastery to protest against the Chinese government.

A Tibetan source residing in Belgium with contacts inside Tibet told Tibet Express that Tsewang was sentenced to ten years in prison earlier this month. The source, however, could not confirm the exact date of the sentencing and other details such as his whereabouts and health condition.

The whereabouts and fate of the other two monks, Atse and Gyaltsen still remain unknown.
