Ani Choying Dolma donates 1 crore rupees towards Nepal’s ‘Tuin Displacement Fund’
DHARAMSALA, July 20: Ani Choying Dolma, a popular Buddhist nun from Nepal has donated one crore rupees towards Nepal’s ‘Tuin Displacement Fund’ programme to replace the tuin, rope bridges from the country.
The popular Buddhist singing nun known throughout the world for bringing many Tibetan Buddhist chants and feast songs to mainstream audiences handed over the amount to the Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in the first episode of “Prime Minister with the People” programme which was broadcasted on Nepal Television on Wednesday night, reports The Himalayan Times.
The Buddhist nun of Tibetan origin from the Nagi Gompa nunnery in Nepal further wished that the amount would contribute to constructing at least a single suspension bridge.
As Nepal has got a stable government enjoying singular majority after a long time, the popular Buddhist nun extended her best wishes to the government to live up to the aspirations of the nation and its people in a meaningful way, the report noted.
According to the report, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced while assuming office during his first term as the Prime Minister on October 11, 2015, that all the rope bridges in the country would be replaced by suspension bridges.
So, while the Nepalese Prime Minister accepted the 1,00,00,000 rupees, he also announced that he would contribute his one month’s salary to add to the amount and set up a ‘Tuin Displacement Fund’ and Manoj Pandey, the programme presenter offered Rs 50,000 towards the fund.
Ani Choying Dolma, who is often described as the Buddhist rock star nun by the western media was born on June 4, 1971, in Kathmandu, Nepal, to Tibetan exiles. She is known for her philanthropic works and she is UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador to Nepal.
