COVID-19: CTA reports 47 positive cases over the past week, tally at 464 active case

 

DHARAMSALA, 4 Dec: The Covid- 19 Task Force of the Central Tibetan Administration has reported 47 new Covid-19 positive cases among exiled Tibetans in India and Nepal over the past week.

Dr Tsering Tsamchoe said during the committee’s weekly briefing on Thursday that from the reported cases, 46 are from India; 1 from Bhandara, 1 Bylakuppe, 1 from Clementown, 4 from Delhi, 8 from Dekyiling, 18 from Ladakh, 8 from Mainpat, 3 from Rajpur, 2 from Mundgod and a lone case from Nepal.

The committee further reported that three Tibetans passed away due to the Chinese originated pandemic in the past week.

The tally now stands at 1321 cases positive cases till date, 133 active cases, 1154 recoveries and 34 deaths.

Dr Tsamchoe further called for continued caution by wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and maintaining a robust immune system.

Dr Tenzin Tsundue briefed the public over the severity of the COvid- 19 cases in Himachal Pradesh and added that Shimla, Mandi and Kangra have become the hotspots of the pandemic in the state.

Though the hope for the world to return to normalcy was renewed with Britain’s approval of the Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday almost exactly a year since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus outbreak from Wuhan, China, Dr Tsundue added that the vaccines’ effectiveness still needs to be evaluated.

Nyima Gyaltsen, the Deputy Secretary of the CTA’s Health Department who addressed the briefing advised Tibetans not let their guards down and continue to exercise caution.

He also warned Tibetans against spreading rumours and stigmatization of Covid patients that he said has an adverse effect on contract tracing efforts and weakened the committees’ management of the pandemic.
